Old Tricks

For teachers

A ten-minute warm-up that argues back

Put a puzzle on the board, let the room get it wrong together, then show them why.

Projector mode

Add ?projector=1 to any puzzle address. The type gets huge and the timers go away. Hints and walkthrough steps open when you click them, and a "Reveal to the class" button shows the answer. Nothing is saved, so you can use the same puzzle in every class.

For example: today's puzzle in projector mode.

Demo mode

Add ?demo=1 and every hint timer is skipped. Use it when you want to show the hint ladder without waiting 45 seconds. Nothing is saved here either, and a banner says so.

Printing

Every puzzle page prints cleanly from the browser: just the note, without the menus. Interactive puzzles print as the story and the question, and the board is better on a screen.

Which day suits which class

Monday is the easiest, one idea and about two minutes. Saturday is the hard one. Sunday is a Loyd classic. Monday to Wednesday suit ages 11 and up. The hint ladder carries younger students, and the walkthrough asks small questions without telling.

The weekly pack

A weekly pack of five printable puzzles, answers included, is planned for teachers and parents. It will never ask a student for an email address.

What students share

Nothing personal. The share text has the puzzle number, the tier, the hints and the time. It never has the answer.
